Getting to and around Peru, Chile, and Colombia

From the airport

Transfer time is the number worth checking before you book, and it varies considerably between properties in Peru, Chile, and Colombia. A resort twenty minutes further out can be materially cheaper, but that difference is paid back on every journey of the trip.

Where a property offers a scheduled shuttle, confirm the frequency rather than the existence of the service. An hourly shuttle and a twice-daily one are entirely different propositions.

Moving between properties

Where public transport exists, it is usually the fastest option at peak times, since resort districts generate exactly the traffic that delays taxis and ride-hailing alike.

Distances in Lima, Viña del Mar, and Bogotá are frequently misjudged. What looks like a short hop on a map can be a long walk in poor weather, along a road built for cars rather than pedestrians.

  • Check whether a walkway, tram, or shuttle connects neighbouring properties before booking a taxi.
  • Peak departure times after events produce long queues; walking a few minutes to a quieter pick-up point is often faster.
  • Confirm whether a ride-hailing pick-up point differs from the main entrance — at larger properties it usually does.
  • Ask about late-night service if you plan to be out; several routes across Peru, Chile, and Colombia stop earlier than visitors expect.

Parking

Parking policy across Peru, Chile, and Colombia has tightened. Self-parking that was once complimentary is now frequently charged nightly, and valet almost always is. Add it to your total before comparing rates.

If you are renting a car for only part of the trip, check whether the property charges by night or by entry; the distinction changes the arithmetic on a day trip.

Accessibility

Ask specifically about the route from the car park to the lobby, lift access to your floor, and the bathroom configuration in the room category you are booking.

Properties in Peru, Chile, and Colombia vary widely in accessible provision, and older buildings in particular may have step-free routes that are long or indirect. Contact the property directly rather than relying on a booking engine's checkbox.
